How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Family business with involvement in dogs for 70 years. Founding member Rio Grande Kennel Club, Albuquerque, NM. Owner currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Rio Grande Kennel Club, The Labrador Club, Inc. AKC's parent club for the breed in the US, and serves on the Judges Education Committee of the Lab Club, Inc.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are the oldest most established boarding kennel in the state of New Mexico. Many of our customers have been with us for 40 years and we are still caring for their third or fourth pets. Our customers know that we are trust-worthy. We provide outstanding customer service, a team of skilled, experienced pet caregivers, and a facility that is impeccable in every way. All these attributes are what keep our loyal customers coming back.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location. We have no plans for expansion off of our current location which consists of approximately 5-acres. We do have plans for expansion of the facility and addition of pet programs for the public.

We are located off of I-25 between Comanche and Montano. We're on the hill adjacent to the large Blue Cross home office at the junction of Yale Blvd. and Joan Hill Rd. 4401 Yale Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107 - Call 505-344-0158 for directions.

Payment in full at time of service is required. We accept Cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express

Our customers come from all over the state. We primarily serve the entire Albuquerque area.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
New Mexican Kennels, Inc. is a New Mexico corporation. Juxi Burr, President and CEO and Andrew Burr, VP, and CFO. Our company is managed by a Management Team consisting of Juxi Burr, Andrew Burr, and Maryle Malloy, a management and marketing consultant, specializing in the pet industry. The internal processes that drive New Mexican Kennels focus on a team approach. All members of the NMK staff are participants. We continually evaluate the systems (the way we do things) and our communication skills. We rely heavily on the expertise of our various team members to offer solutions and insights that allow us to provide better care and services for pets, customers and staff

Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 6:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Sunday 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
We have many, and the theme is consistent - Here is an example: " Over a period of 33 years we have owned four of the loyal yet wary to strangers breed; Hungarian Pulik. Humphrey, Paps, Louis, and George ended up trusting the staff at New Mexican Kennels - quite a miraculous feat. During this period, we so have appreciated the owners and staff for their efforts in making our dogs and two cats at ease and comfortable at their home away from home. Thank you."
