Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1974
What is your primary product or service?
Music instruction in piano, theory, voice, composition and orchestration. I'm also an active composer, commissioned by a number of ensembles, including the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I was in High School, I played the piano in my Dad's church. Some of the members asked me to teach their children. I was born in Texas in 1947 and moved to New Mexico in 1971 for "the light, the space, and the timelessness." I completed a graduate degree in
composition at UNM, opened a music school, raised a family and wrote music. The Music Teachers National Association named me the USA Composer of the Year in 1980. In 1985, my composition, "Fajada Butte," commissioned by the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, was performed in Kennedy Center by the National Repertory Orchestra for the 20th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts. I served for seven years as the Musical Director of the Albuquerque Boy Choir, of which my sons are alumni.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
My primary location is on Summer Ave. in Albuquerque. Lessons and workshops at "Annacarla," my retreat north of Cuba NM, are for individuals, families and groups by appointment.
Provide detailed directions to your location
From the intersection of Chelwood Park Blvd and Constitution, go one block south on Chelwood to Summer Ave, the first left. Go east on Summer. 12713 is in the first block, on the north side.
Which areas do you service?
The Albuquerque and Cuba areas. Because of my location, many of my students live in the NE, but almost as many come from the west side.
